“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Ron Howard and stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrison, and Emilia Clark. This movie is the backstory about Han Solo how he became a fighter for the Imperial forces to becoming best friends with Luke and marrying Leia. To me I felt this movie was a 50/50 for me, the reason was I’m really interested in knowing how Han Solo became an important character in the Star Wars universe. However, at the same time, we just went through Star Wars: The Last Jedi and I think we should have a gap a year apart from Star Wars movies so we can recover from other Star Wars movies. For the pros of the movie, the story was well-written, it was interesting again to see Han become an important character in the Star Wars universe. The characters were well-casted, my favorite had to Donald Glover’s performance as Lando Calrission. As amazing as multi-talented Donald Glover is from his music under the name of Childish Gambino to his amazing show Atlanta. We can safely say Donald Glover is Lando Calrission younger self without a doubt. Alden Ehrenreich performance as younger Han Solo was amazing as well. I liked how his performance was almost to mimicking Harrison Ford’s character. It did not get annoying for me. For the cons of the movie, the pacing of the movie, it had a hard time balancing its speed sometimes the movie is fast and they are times the movie is very slow. It killed the movie flow. The villain of the movie was also a downside for me. I thought he would be a big importance of the film but it was a let down for me.
Overall, I would say if your interested in knowing the history of Han Solo go and watch this movie. If you just want to watch a Star Wars movie, go ahead. Is it in the same league to the previous three Star Wars movies? Unfortunate not.
